Emsi has several different types of data with different update schedules.
Emsi updates the core data four times per year with the latest data available. These updates are called Dataruns. Emsi’s Data team constantly checks for and downloads new government data as it becomes available from each of our sources (e.g. the BLS releases Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) monthly and Emsi’s data team downloads the releases as they come available).
The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW), released quarterly, kicks off a new Emsi datarun. You can view the QCEW release schedule here (note that Emsi uses the Full Data Release, not the News Release). As soon as a new quarter of QCEW is released, Emsi’s Data team downloads it and re-flows all Emsi data to incorporate all data downloads that happened since the last datarun. This incorporation of new data sources is then released as a new datarun.
Emsi publishes release notes with every datarun, outlining major changes and data updates. The release notes can be found here.
Job Postings and Social Profiles
Emsi Job Postings and Profiles data are re-flowed roughly every two weeks. These re-flows can occur for several reasons:
- To take advantage of improvements in various taggers, such as the skills and company taggers
- To incorporate a new month’s job postings (usually occurs a few days into a new month)
- To incorporate profile additions and updates from our sources for Profiles (occurs quarterly)
The JPA Changelog contains information on what changes were made to JPA, as well as the date on which the re-flow occurred. The Profiles Changelog contains the same information for Emsi Profiles data.
