The BLS’s Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) dataset is the foremost source of occupation data in the US. Emsi’s SOC structure almost entirely follows OES’s, so Emsi will be adopting SOC 2018 with OES.
Because OES is based on a set of data collected over three years, it will take the BLS three years to switch it from using SOC 2010 to using SOC 2018. In the spring of 2020, the BLS will begin releasing OES using a hybrid SOC system that bridges the SOC 2010 and 2018 classifications. In the spring of 2022, OES will release its data in SOC 2018 for the first time. At that point, Emsi will begin to use the SOC 2018 classification.
